Is Franchising Right for Me?: Workshop Spotlight

Is Franchising Right for Me?: Workshop Spotlight

*UPDATE – POSTPOSED UNTIL APRIL 2016 – UTSA SBDC*

Stephen Maeker is nationally published and recognized as one of the top franchise consultants in the United States. He has helped many people across the world successfully execute their franchise agreements by utilizing his education based approach in evaluating whether or not to buy a franchise. On Tuesday, January 19, 2016 he will present an interactive session to help you better understanding of how franchising works and if it’s the right option for you.

Stephen Maeker shared a bit about the workshop and his background:

  1. What are you most looking forward to teaching the franchising workshop at UTSA SBDC? I LOOK MOST FORWARD TO SHARING BOTH MY PASSION AND EXPERTISE AT THE SBDC. I ESPECIALLY LIKE SHARING MY EXPERIENCE AS A SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISEE, AS MY WIFE CHRISTY AND I OWN ONE OF THE FRANCHISES THAT I REPRESENT.
  1. What are some of the key pieces of information an attendee will learn? A few highlights of the course. HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATE THE FRANCHISE DISCLOSURE DOCUMENT, HOW TO MAXIMIZE THE FRANCHISEE VALIDATION PROCESS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, LEARNING THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE CORRECT WAY TO BUY A FRANCHISE (THE PROCESS WILL BE EXPLAINED IN CLASS STEP BY STEP).
  1. A bit about your background and how you became connected with the UTSA SBDC? I HAVE BEEN TEACHING THE FRANCHISE SEMINAR FOR MULTIPLE SBDC OFFICES ALL OVER THE STATE AND IT HAS CONSISTENTLY BEEN RATED AS A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE WORKSHOP. I ORIGINALLY COME INTO THE TEXAS SBDC FAMILY IN HOUSTON, WHERE CHRISTY AND I LIVE WITH OUR TEENAGE SON AND IT BASED ON THE SUCCESS OF THE SEMINAR, OTHER SBDC BRANCHES HAVE ASKED ME TO TEACH THE SAME SEMINAR FOR THEM.

An important feature of this workshop includes a hands-on look at an actual franchise disclosure document. The document discloses extensive information about the franchisor and is intended to give you enough information to make an educated decision regarding your investment. Key areas include:

  • initial franchise fees and expenses
  • obligations of the franchisor and franchisee
  • territory restrictions
  • renewal and termination
  • franchisor financial statements
  • plus much more…

Workshop on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the UTSA Downtown Campus, Durango Building 2.316. $20.00 per person. Pre-registration required. To register for the course: click here. Questions? Need help with registration? Call: 210-458-2460.
