Freetail Brewing Company produces the best and freshest beer and pizza in South Central Texas. Much admired and always desired, at any given time Freetail Brewing offers 8 to 12 in-house beers ranging from traditional to a little funky. The company’s name, “Freetail” was chosen to honor the official Texas flying mammal, the Mexican Free-Tailed Bat.
Founder of Freetail Brewing, Scott Metzger, became involved with microbrewing through a passion to find some of the best craft beers in the U.S. and abroad. In his quest to open his own brewing company, Scott consulted with Patrice McElfresh and Wayne Looff, both Senior Certified Business Advisors at the San Antonio SBDC. Patrice and Wayne helped Scott determine feasibility, to show that there is a market for quality, unique beer in San Antonio. The unique brewery/restaurant combination concept was extensively researched along with site location, lease factors, capital requirements, equipment needs, and marketing strategies. With the assistance of the SA SBDC, Freetail Brewing Company opened its doors in November 2008 in north San Antonio at NW Military Highway and Loop 1604. The microbrewery combines an original selection of craft beer from in-house and around the state of Texas in addition to an array of gourmet pizzas, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and desserts made from the highest quality ingredients. They offer spacious seating, an outdoor patio, live music, and nine HDTV’s featuring sporting events.
