David Baenziger

Before joining the SBDC in 2000, David owned and operated his own small business for over 20 years. He holds a BS from Southwest Texas State University.

David spends his free time working outside taking care of his 20 acres of land. He also enjoys classic movies and TV shows.

David works primarily out of the San Antonio office, but travels to assist clients in Boerne and Fredericksburg.

Patrice McElfresh

Patrice joined the SBDC in 2005. She has over 10 years of experience in commercial lending and property management. Patrice holds a BS in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Economics from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is also currently working towards her MPA at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Patrice is a UTSA Lifetime Alumni Member and is also involved in the Kerrville Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Leon Springs Business Association. She is also a Masterpiece Theater addict.

Patrice primarily works out of the San Antonio office, but travels to Kerrville to assist clients.

Ben Garza

Ben joined the SBDC in 2007. His background is assisting emerging companies with strategy formulation, market development, corporate development and investor matchmaking. He also has experience in executive management and board leadership, operational management strategic and tactical planning, market analysis, intellectual property development, sales and marketing. Ben holds an MBA in Finance and BBA in Accounting from Our Lady of the Lake University.

Ben enjoys playing golf, traveling and participating in fraternal organizations.

Ben primarily works in Pleasanton, covering Atascosa, Wilson, Frio and Medina Counties.

Crystal Darby

Before joining the SBDC in 2001, Crystal owned a communications consulting business for 12 years. Prior to that, she worked in the nonprofit sector writing grants, creating newsletters and other publications and coordinating volunteers. She also worked in government providing services to employers who hire people with disabilities. Crystal holds an MPA from the University of New Orleans and a BS in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin.

Crystal lives downtown and is a VIA rider and Riverwalk walker. She is a devoted grandmother and movie buff.

Crystal primarily works out of the San Antonio office, but travels to Helotes, Universal City, Selma, Castroville and La Vernia to assist clients.

Wayne Looff

Wayne joined the SBDC in 2001. Wayne has over 25 years of experience owning and managing restaurants with multiple locations. He has also been a real estate broker for 30 years and has owned other retail establishments. Wayne holds a BBA in Management from Texas State University.

Wayne and his wife enjoy local and international travel. His interests include architecture and home improvement. Wayne also enjoys good food and wine.

Wayne primarily works out of the San Antonio office, but travels to Guadalupe and Comal counties to assist clients.

Tom Hansis

Before joining the SBDC in 1996, Tom worked in sales, nonprofit management, business consulting and community development. He has an extensive background in finance, management and small business consulting. Tom has worked in Puerto Rico, Argentina and Honduras. He holds a BA in Latin American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Tom enjoys playing baseball, swimming, canoeing and traveling.

Chris Delgado

Before joining the SBDC in 2010, Chris was in the investments and banking industry for over 10 years. He uses his experience and expertise to assist his clients to obtain funding through traditional and non-traditional funding sources. Chris holds a BA from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Chris is a total people person and avid sports watcher. He loves the Spurs, Saints, Red Sox and UTSA Roadrunners.

Ruben Lopez

Ruben joined the SBDC in 2012. His background includes service in the U.S. Army, manufacturing operations and Mobil Chemical Co., working for a small high tech company, owning his own business, technology licensing and patenting and incorporating environmental sustainability into business operation. Ruben’s experience allows him to help clients across many industries. Ruben holds an MBA from St. Mary’s University, MS in Technology Management from the University of Texas at San Antonio and BS in Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Ruben’s hobbies include tailgating at UTSA football games, Texas Revolution reenacting, studying military history, fishing, grilling, bike riding and being a member of the Muzzle Loader Shooting Club.

John Warlow

John joined the SBDC in 2015. His background includes 35 years of food and beverage experience ranging from sales manager/representative with Nestle’s Foods, to Manufacturer’s Rep. He has been a food broker of consumer packaged goods and currently owns and operates his own restaurant here in San Antonio.

John’s experience allows him to help clients across many industries, and he enjoys giving back to his community. He holds a MBA in Management/Marketing from Our Lady of the Lake University and a BBA in Management/Marketing at UTSA.

John loves to cook and enjoys a good bottle of cabernet with a cigar. He enjoys fishing, boating and generally being around any body of water. Some evenings will find him watching any show that involves solving a crime.

Larry New

Project Manager

Larry New is the project manager at the UTSA Small Business Development Center Satellite Office in New Braunfels. He assists aspiring and established small business owners in New Braunfels Seguin and surrounding communities.

Prior to joining the SBDC in 2015, Larry owned and operated a small business for 20 years. He has also been an airline pilot, a Marine Corps Officer, a fighter pilot and instructor and a director of safety and standardization. Larry earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management from the University of Texas at Austin.

Larry enjoys dancing to Two Tons of Steel at Gruene Hall with his lovely wife and enjoys traveling with his family. Another one of his loves is flying his Van’s RV7 experimental airplane that he built in his spare time.

Scott Hardwick

Scott joined the SBDC in 2016. He brings over 15 years’ experience in working for a major tax firms assisting companies in implementing development cost and tax savings strategies for their locations throughout the United States.  In addition, he previously held a senior position in the Economic Development Department of Butler County, Ohio, focused on the facilitation of inbound investment to the county from both international and domestic companies.

Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Miami University in Oxford, OH.  He is certified as an Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) by the National Development Council and is also certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate.  He is a current member of International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).  In his spare time he likes to hike and is an avid tennis player.

Sam Morgan

Sam joined the SBDC in 2016. His background includes service in the U.S. Army, government contracting and restaurant managing. Sam holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and a BS in Business Administration from Franklin University.

Sam’s hobbies include weight lifting, UT Longhorn football, and anything history related. He is an active Franklin University Alumni and University of Phoenix Alumni. He enjoys spending time with his family and pets.

Lisha Garcia

Lisha has been serving small businesses as an SBDC advisor for over nine years. She was previously with the Arizona SBDC Network as the Diversity and Women’s Business Coordinator. She was with the Austin SBDC for 3 years before transferring in May of 2016 to the San Antonio SBDC. Lisha has extensive experience growing small businesses. Lisha holds a BA from the University of Arizona, MFA from Vermont College and MIM from Thunderbird School.

Lisha is a widely published poet and is completing her second book. She is a Certified Life Coach and a member of the International Coach Federation.

Lisha primarily works out of the San Antonio office, but travels to Medina, Frio, Wilson and Atascosa counties to assist clients.
